Is the O-Line great? no. Are they serviceable? yes. Not to mention when Bagent was QB last year, they had above average numbers. Fields was a big contributor to the O-Line's negative views. From there, we got better. no more Lucas Patrick, added Bates, drafted the Yale kid, and still expect Poles to make a couple moves. Top 5 defense, top 2 receiving core (Houston, maybe), great RB room, serviceable OL, and generational rookie QB. Huge expectations.
Fields undeniably made a shaky O-Line look worse at times. I think the O-Line can for sure be serviceable, the question is whether five core guys can stay healthy for 15-17 games. That's my concern, as I don't think they can.
The Tommy Edwards feature in Ep 1 was awesome. Only thing in Chicago sports that gets me more amped is a Jim Cornelison national anthem. Happy Friday in Chicago. Birds are chirping, planes are flying, sun is shining. May have to go to Sox park for a campfire milkshake
I thought you were smarter than to judge a football coach by his public speaking ability. The past is full of NFL Coaches who gave great speeches but couldn't build a game plan or make adjustments. What Eberflus did last year in turning that team around deserves credit. If you want a great speech, I hear Gerry Faust is available.
As I said before, the Odunze pick should have been another OLineman. I am so worried about this that I think we need to part with our 2nd round pick(preferably not the one we got from Carolina) and trade for a solid OLineman. A wealth of receivers(Moore, Allen, Odunze, Kmet, Swift) does you no good if the QB has no time to throw. How many times do we have to learn that?
I feel bad for Grifol. Reinsdorf is the absolute worst owner in sports and supposedly Baseball is his one great love. How can you let this happen to your team?!?!? And if lets this happen to his one great love what does that mean for the Bulls?!?! He is single handedly trying to ruin the greatest sports city in America.
Lastly, I have said forever that if you want me to come see the Air and Water show then I expect an F-16 to come in from over the city and blow a yacht out of the water with complete destruction. Without that, you better be on a boat.
Also, the Canadian kid, I heard previous coaches told the Bears not to play anyone valuable because that turf at Canton is really bad. That looked like a turf injury to me.
Going to pull back from the newsletter you just commented on:
"Now, charisma and speech capabilities are certainly not the be-all, end-all for a head football coach."
Odunze was the right pick. Drafting for NEED when you're rebuilding, that high, is always a mistake. There are other avenues to fix the offensive line other than the no. 8 pick in the draft. A first-round pick next year, and two second-round picks. A ton of money for free agents.
Coaching is my only concern. Eberflus taking notes when Saban telling him how to treat a rookie QB should concern everybody. That said, Shane Walton - that guy everyone in Seattle was pumped to watch leave - should fix it. Jk (kinda). He did turn Geno smith into MVP-type guy for a year. So who knows. But I already know who I’m blaming for anything that goes wrong.
I was also told by a guy (not gonna say his name, but rhymes with Snakub Cherner), we should not be concerned about OL. And I usually believe what he says and don’t think twice. Not you’re saying concern. I’m thinking twice.
WR room looks sick. Need an epsiode only on these guys. Vet, absolute stud, rising star. They have it all. Can’t wait for these guys.
Yes, do not need to watch Eberflus family’s reaction to preseason games from the stands.
White Sox: they are 40.5 games out of first place in their division. Happy they kept Robert, the guy who plays 50 games a year. Good guy to build around. Doesn’t mean I don’t love him.
Congrats to E'Twaun Moore. The guy deserves the world.

"And now..." and Jim Cornelison are two things Chicago's sports teams definitively get right.
Side note: I am DYING for a campfire milkshake. I just don't want to go to a Sox game. A major predicament.

Really wide-ranging and thoughtful comment here, Mike. I appreciated it from start to finish.
The OL is definitely going to be a concern throughout, even when (if) they are playing well at any given moment. You got bad info.
Shane Waldron.
