The Bears and their “playoff hopes”. Zach LaVine and his 49-point game. Jose Abreu and his 50 million dollars. Three polarizing topics and plenty of room to write…
The only thing worse than mentioning the Bears and the Playoffs in the same breath is actually seeing them make it and get absolutely thrashed on National TV. Picture it. Bears Defense causes two turnovers inside the opponents 10 to start the game. We run three straight dive plays for two yards. The first time Nagy goes for it and runs a halfback option to Cohen(going to his left) where Cohen keeps the ball, runs backwards for a five yard loss. Second time, after Nagy has Frozen him already, Piniero misses the 29 yarder. It all goes downhill from there.
Nagy is a stubborn prick. Per Olin Kruetz, Trubisky has obvious skills but Nagy wants him to do everything but those things. The OLine is not good at Zone Blocking but he won't change it. Everyone is questioning his play calling and suggesting he give up play calling but he won't.
Lastly, we are sloppy in every aspect of the game. Penalties, Wide Receiver blocking, have you seen our screen plays?, Special Teams ...... that is coaching!
I honestly thought the bears were winning out until I watched Lamar Jackson put up 40+ on the rams tonight while trubisky and co put up a whopping 7 points. That being said like most 3rd quarters this season trubisky played like the MVP of the league. Imagine trubisky with an average running game and offensive line and receivers who could catch the ball and a coach who wasn’t brain dead calling offensive plays. Ryan pace should be fired and never allowed back in Chicago.
I appreciate the hell out of the enthusiasm, I really do. MVP of the league is a stretch, but the 3rd quarter splits are bizarre. Speaking of MVPs and the Ravens, do I think Mitch would be as good as Lamar in Baltimore? No. Do I think he'd be a LOT better? Yes.
Not only are playoff hopes alive, but so is my bet o9.5 wins. Yes they to win out but I have hope still for no fucking reason. But this leads me to my next point, I have hope because chuck Pagano is probably the most underrated coach in the NFL right now. If the bears offense was somewhat competent this team would be 9-1. The amount of terrible offense that puts their defense immediately back on the field and this man is still piecing together a top 5? Maybe top 3 defense with a couple of very important pieces being injured. Pagano for prez. This lions spread at -1.5 says a lot about how shitty this team is and I can’t wait to bet on it, watch them lose and both my weekly bet and season o9.5 bet are done. Idk even know what I’m saying anymore tbh. Go bears
I was on cloud nine after the win yesterday and said the Bears have a real shot at the playoffs. A piece of me woke up today and still had hope.
That being said, Trubisky still sucks and I still hate him. The last thing the 4th phase needs is the Bears to make the playoffs and all three of Mitch, Nagy, and Pace are back last year. I actually hope they don't make the playoffs so I don't have to see Mitch Trubisky's stupid face on a Sunday ever again.
And I never want to watch Matt Nagy call another play for the Bears again. Mr. Donlan, I agree 100%, total stubborn prick.
So to answer your question, I've positioned myself into a win-win. They continue to lose then I don't have to see that sorry excuse of a quarterback ever again (hopefully). If they make the playoffs, great.
Mitch Trubisky could become the next Tom Brady and I will still hate him. I think it's his face and the words that come out of his mouth.
The playoffs getting in my head kind of reminds me of the scene in Holes when it finally rains at Camp Green Lake. You get so used to the miserable sun that they were thrilled about rain, even though they are not farming anything. Beating the Giants is such a small feat that I got overly excited.
1. Eddie Piniero is complete horse shit, back to the drawing board next season.
2. Mitch Trubiskys second interception was the most pathetic throw I've seen in quite some time. The receiver was double covered and the ball came up 10 yards short.
3. I can almost guarantee a win against the Chiefs on December 23rd. Bear weather will be in full effect and I have some insider information about a few 4th phasers that will be in Soldier making Pat Mahomes life a living hell.
I like the Abreu deal and actually think he will be productive for at least 2 of the 3 seasons. If he rides the bench in his 3rd year and Vaughn takes over at first base with Abreu taking more of the Paul Konerko role in his final year I am fine with that. His power numbers are still there, if he can just walk a little bit more then he absolutely deserves that money.
Bring on Wheeler and sign/trade for a RF'er and the Sox are EASY favorites to win the AL Central
Nothing says "Playoff Bound" like squeaking out a win at home against the Giants. The prospect of anyone thinking the Bears can beat the Cowboys, Packers and Chiefs in consecutive weeks is more concerning than it is laughable. Feel genuinely bad for anyone who is holding onto that thought.
Zach Lavine- One of very very few men on this planet that could make me side with Jim Boylen. It's all a dumpster fire, and I would love for GarPax, Boylen, and Lavine all to pack their bags and we can start fresh. Unfortunately being a Chicago Sports fan isn't that easy.
Also- I haven't been able to stop watching the GIF of Arch essentially telling Boylen to fuck off? So insane.
I can't tell if that's what he's doing. If he actually is doing that, it's maybe the most tone deaf thing of all time. Archie, the only reason you play 25 minutes per game for an NBA team is because Boylen is your coach.
Solidly behind Boylen. Defense is an attitude thing. If you don't play it and don't even try to play it, you are selfish and not a good basketball player. See James Harden.
James Harden is voted MVP by people who really don't understand Basketball or vote that was solely based on offense. He will NEVER win an NBA title because an offense that allows one person to pound the ball at the top of the key for 16-18 seconds is too easy to prepare for in the playoffs. Win all you want in the regular season. You will lose in the playoffs. Also, YouTube James Harden Defense. He makes Lavine look like a stud defender.
Chris Gall, thank you for pointing out the omission. Him playing at Purdue is literally what evoked the question in the first place, so I'm not sure how I forgot to include him. Online version has been updated. Plus, he's the best QB of all time from Purdue!

Um, Andrew.....as much as I hate Purdue, Kyle Orton did play QB there.

Bears defense allowed 17.7 PPG last year and is allowing 17.1 PPG this year.

I genuinely don't understand how you got to the playoffs in your head, while also hating Trubisky and Nagy for their shortcomings.
Mitch Trubisky could become the next Tom Brady and I will still hate him. I think it's his face and the words that come out of his mouth.

Love the Holes reference.
A few things here on this fine Monday Morning.
1. Eddie Piniero is complete horse shit, back to the drawing board next season.

Bear Down.
4-12 no longer on the table

If the Sox don't sign anyone else this offseason of note will you change your tune on Abreu?
Yes. If they are stating that "the money was spent" when a big chunk of that went to Abreu I would be frustrated.

Tough to do the "See: ___" thing when you call upon an MVP of the league.
