Watching Hoosiers tonight in honor of the great Gene Hackman. As Dan Patrick properly remarked "It's not a great sports movie, it's just a great movie".
I’ve been off my Substack & SGCT CHI game… Happy Friday. I can’t help but comment on the opening lines of this week’s edition. Those first signs of Spring give the first signs of Fall a run for their money. Fall has that crisp breeze in the air, you grab that first hoodie you see in the closet, bowl of chili, football.
I’d argue, however, that glimpse of Spring is a different buzz. You can lose the jacket for the first time in months. Corned beef sliders. St. Patty’s dialogue. Selection Sunday (RIP Gumbel). The all day Madness to see which 13 seed will beat the 4 seed. Let’s have a day!!
God did you nail the Girl Scout Cookie interaction. They sit outside the Jewel, I feel the pressure, I stop to buy and walk away feeling so unsatisfied. I am not sure either the girl or the mom acknowledged me.
You know it is a horrible time of year for sports when, by far, the most exciting thing going on is the NFL Combine. I can watch that all day.
Lastly, Steroids. As the late great Mayor Daley said, and I completely agree with, "It is not the act that gets you in trouble, its the cover up". The extent these people go to in order to cover their crimes makes them look pathetic. Like Tom Brady and the Deflategate.
Lastly, only those who also cheat in their lives say "Everyone was doing it" to excuse other cheaters.

The King of The Eulogy, Dan Patrick. Will have to fire that up tonight after Mississippi Burning.
The Sosa relationship is further complicated with how he exited the Cubs, beyond the steroid allegations.
I remember being young enough to defend the corked bat.
He grabbed the wrong bat! He didnt know it was corked! He used it in BP to get the fans excited!
The corked bat on the verge of the home run achievement was devastating. I also remember believing his story, I'm not sure why everyone else didn't.

Glad to have you back!
And you're right. Those two changes of seasons in Chicago make it all worth it.

Watching the NFL Combine all day is incredible. You're a rare breed for that.
