I am so glad to hear some rational thoughts. I drove home last night and in again today listening to this banter on the Bears QB. Silvy pointed out that Jamies Winston's stats from 2019 are almost exactly the same as Wentz's except they are double. 33 TD's/30 INT's for 5200 yrds vs. 16/15 for 2600 yrds. Considering that, Jamies became a free agent and signed for the $1M League Minimum. Yet, we are looking at giving them a 1st round draft pick?!?! Trubisky is a better option than Wentz.

Besides, it doesn't matter who the QB is if Nagy is going to call plays again. Which they are saying he will. Our frustration will continue.

I am still all in on the Bulls. They are competitive every game and always in it.

Great Winston/Wentz comparison. I'd far rather have Winston for 10 million. Though I don't want either.

GO BULLS.

The entire league can sense Pace's desperation and every GM will that's looking to move a couple players will get the Bears involved in talks just to see if they'll pay an absurd price. I have no confidence in the front office to evaluate what a good price to pay for any player is. Also Tarik Cohen tweeting that we shouldn't worry and he's staying put like he's not a 3rd down running back coming off an ACL tear was something else.

Hahaha totally agree on the Cohen front, thought I do enjoy his stream-of-consciousness Twitter feed.

This is what happens when you bring Pace back, he is trying to save his job and turn this team into a contender when clearly this team is FUBAR. Short and sweet today

I have typed and retyped multiple comments over the past couple days without posting a single one. Here's what it comes down to in my opinion. I will always give a new player a chance, especially a qb. Too many factors play into an individuals success behind the scenes. We see players swap teams and turn it on all the time. We also see top players get traded and turn it off (Robert Quinn, if you consider that one year to categorize him as a top player).

That being said, I googled "QB rankings 2020 season" to see where I would personally rank Wentz in terms of which QB I would prefer to take over the Bears franchise BASED SOLELY ON TALENT. I would take him 13th. Just before Rivers. I guess someone can make an argument for Baker, but I am not a huge Baker fan. Matt Ryan, Roethlisbeger, and Goff are either old, trash, or both. And each one has also thrown to an unbelievable receiving core. Everyone else on the list is terrible.

I do think Wentz costs way too much for his talent. I think I would rather take a QB in the 1st and then pump the OLine the rest of the draft.

I can see what you're saying, but if we're going strictly off talent, is Brady in the top 10? I just think the situation and circumstances matter more than anything else. Just because there may be talent in there somewhere doesn't mean the Bears should engage.

I agree with you at this point re: draft. Feels like the best way forward.

Late to the comment section here, I see that Z drink his coffee yesterday. Lets not casually say "throw some capital and couple of picks to get Wentz." That's a dangerous game. I don't want Wentz at all, but I also don't really want any one that has been mentioned. Sad that I participated in a few Darnold vs. Wentz arguments in the last week.

Bulls have been so frustrating as of late, need to get a couple of big Ws in a row. PG13/Playoff P out for the Clips on Bulls Friday.

We have to throw capital and picks to get Wentz, though. And given the reality of the situation, that's ridiculous.

It is extremely painful to admit that after a few beers I was trying to convince my group chat that Wentz would be a solid move. I woke up the next morning and apologized. “He was basically an Mvp” definitely came out of my mouth. You can make a case that he didn’t have much of a supporting cast but either did Deshaun Watson. Not saying we are going to get him but giving up any first rounder/having to pay that contract for a guy that lead the league in turnovers would be laughable and also typical bears. I don’t even know how we attack the QB position. We won’t get deshaun and we won’t have a draft pick high enough to get a solid prospect. I hate sports

Bulls injuries have been incredibly frustrating. We have seen what they look like at full strength competing in games against the lakers and clippers. This hasn’t been the best stretch losing games you could have won but there are some positives. Agreed lavine has been very solid but god damn they need to figure something out other than a Lavine iso every single possession with under 4 min left. Carter has been the biggest issue. We have been murdered in the rebounding and second chance points category (why we lost to Knicks and magic). How about Valentine getting two Iso’s in the final 2 minutes in a 3 point game against the magic. Ridiculous.

I have seen those lonzo rumors and I would love it. He has a great style of play for our offense and Coby is too inconsistent of a shooter to be hoisting that many shots. He’s 0-12 in the first half of last two games. That said I don’t know how likely it will be.

Pretty bummed Derrick didn’t go to a contender but I’m happy he is reunited with Thibs and on a somewhat watchable team. His insta post got me teary eyed. “What’s Pooh spelled backwards?”

As for the Sox, really dumb bringing back Rodon in my opinion. He was a mess last year but we will see.

Stockholm Syndrome manifests itself in QB desires all the time. I've dealt with the same thing. Don't feel bad about the Wentz take, I'm just happy you're back to your senses.

Gonna have something big come out on LaVine at the end of games next week.

Agreed on Lonzo, would love to have him.

The way I see the Rodon move is that if he doesn't pitch well, he won't pitch. No harm, no foul.

I have also seen a bunch of memes like “Derrick Rose’s knees when they see thibs (insert Jordan crying meme.” I did laugh a bit but I am curious, do you hold thibs accountable for derricks injuries?

Expand full comment
author

No, definitely not. Those were inevitable. He reportedly used to play basketball on his own time outside of practice as well. His body was not going to keep up with the strain he was putting on it. And Thibs was not the only guy not realizing the value of rest and load management back then. Everyone looks back now and believes that was the case. Could he have been better? Yeah. So could half of the other coaches in the league. He was not responsible for Rose's injury, if anything, it was the lockout schedule that year.

Glad you said that, sure it didn’t help he was playing a lot but to put all that burden on a coach is crazy

Apology accepted for wanting my boy T-Mobile in a Bears Uniform.

We meet again, Andy. First of all, this March Madness schedule is news to me and what the fuck? When I found out NCAA Football video games would be back I started hating them less, now this shit storm? You're telling me, in a GODDAMN PANDEMIC with everyone forced to work from home, you're only going to give me one day of round one games to bullshit my way through work? I need those two days, streaming games on my computer with Bill Raferty yelling "Onions!" in one ear and my boss bitching about my numbers in the other. That's what I'm most fired up about.

Now to the Carson Wentz drama, I'm free all afternoon if anyone wants to text me, I'm all in on the guy. Mortgaging the future for him? Absolutely not, but if they throw some cash and we give up a pick or two whatever. Give me that battle tested body in a Bears uniform. Yeah, he sucked ass last year. His o-line was worse than the Bears, he was throwing to a former college quarterback, whoever the fuck Travis Fulgham is, and I can't even name anyone else? Why not take a chance on a guy who was a lock to win MVP before a nasty knee injury. I don't see a world where things get worse as a Bears fan, so why the hell not? Are we gonna trust the Bears brass to get us a quarterback through the draft or free agency? We've had the same best franchise quarterback since fucking 1950! I have to go to a virtual team meeting now so I'm wrapping this up prematurely. Phone number is (630) 373-9421 if anyone wants to argue.

Also great point Mitt on Tarik Cohen, I was losing sleep thinking about us trading our 4'3" running back that hasn't ran vertically in the NFL yet.

Pat Williams lost his balls somewhere over the last month, Billy needs to get him shooting again, completely agree on the pump fakes.

Alright, time to go nod my head and pretend I'm listening for the next two hours.

Also, I know I contradicted myself with being free all afternoon and having to go to a team meeting, but who the fuck cares anymore. Fuck the Bears Cubs Bulls all of em! And the Hawkeyes suck! But I am going into a team meeting but will be sitting here waiting, just can't be angrily typing the whole time.

There's just no way in your mind you can watch the Eagles last year and blame him performance entirely on his team. Again, if that were the case, the Eagles would not be trading him. He's broken, physically and mentally. It's not just the knee -- but the knee has to do with it. You're acting like 2017 was yesterday. It's been a while. And the most recent evidence suggests he's far from a franchise guy, and not worth throwing any more picks away for.

Scroll down past the little man's comments and you'll see he threw for 4,000 yards, 27 tds vs 7 picks two years ago. Eagles are a joke, intentionally lost a game, and had 11 different starting offensive lines this year. You know who the last Bear to throw for 4,000 yards is???

They don't have one. They were actively trying to win every single game that Carson Wentz started, and he was so bad that, yes, they tried to lose a game for a higher draft pick in the final one. Giving up assets and paying $33 million for an injury prone QB that was awful last year is exactly what we need though, you're right...
